See web site for details: www.lunchtime.us
Lunchtime League is a handicapped singles series. We will be playing singles.
Initial handicap is determined by the "highest division you have played in any event no matter how small":
* Initial Handicap: Pro = +4.8 / Adv = +1.6 / Int = -1.6 / Nov = -4.8
(If you have never played a tournament, you may help us select which "division" is most appropriate for you.)
For players who have played in League before:
* Initial Handicap Bump (except Pro: your last year's LL division plus +1.5 shots)
Remember, initial handicap is only effective for you first two outings, after which it is calculated as "80% of the difference between your average and the field average".
Yes, hole 11 has only one tee. (The "long" tee was closed years ago for safety reasons. It may only be used for Ice Bowl, which is currently not being held, but watch out for StumpTown to maybe bring it back....) All other holes are played from the long tee in League. Do you know where long tees are for holes 4 and 9? (For that matter, do you know where the short tee is for 5?) On hole 4, players unable to regularly throw the 319' required to get in bounds on a straight line might consider laying up onto the mowed grass on the right.) I can get you a map if need be.
Remember that League is handicapped, so everyone has an equal shot at winning, no matter which course we play. League rewards players for improvement throughout the season. It's a lot of fun, and a great way for beginners, kids, ladies, older folks, etc. to have some fun in a casual tournament format.

Indeed, the food was outstanding tonight: Grilled dogs & hoagie rolls, kraut, beans, green salad, potato salad, chips, lemonade, pastries, and more. Nearly a dozen GPBC volunteers showed up and cranked out the feast smoothly.
The weather was ideal once again. We had another FULL FIELD, and even after sitting out I had to turn away one unfortunate golfer who said he had been at the course all day, but had only just learned of League minutes before. He cheerily pledged that he would come early next week, and I recommend that you do the same!
The issue of casual golfers came up again, as the course was very busy in addition to League play. I will approach Albert about the possibility of closing the course for League (assuming we continue to fill), and at the very least I will get some signs posted to warn casual players.
Albert was hugely helpful in checking in players, Stumptown members Patrick & Lonell took care of the Bag Tag, and many players rendered additional assistance: thanks to you all. We are looking forward to the day when the Student Center A/V booth reconstruction is complete; but for now we are learning to get by better and better with the laptop (a real mouse and keyboard helped a lot this week, as did sitting out and preparing the spreadsheet during the round). Thankfully, we still have the projector, allowing us to display scores for those with acute vision, or good corrective lenses.
Week 3 was a total blast, and I hope we have 59 wonderful players show up next week!
Reminders:
* No alcohol, tobacco, etc. allowed in the Student Center, please
* No unattended children allowed in the Student Center, please
Thanks for playing Lunchtime League, see you next week! Never been to League? Consider this: the top 3 winners today were all playing in their first week of League 2009, and their raw scores ranged from under-par to par to over-par! They won $87.00 combined! Next week's ace pot could reach $114.00!

Maybe that triple-digit heat was too much for my shriveled old brain (probably
why I squandered 5 birdies by tacking on 3 bogies), but I forgot to copy the
scores onto my flash drive, so I could not post them until I returned to the student center.
Also, I thought I would poll folks to see if we wanted to throw in for some
pizzas, in case there is no food next week. I know Papa Johns used to give GPBC good deals on stacks of pizzas, and maybe they're close by enough that someone could run down after their last hole and grab them? Would you be willing to throw in $2 for pizza as a backup plan?

Lunchtime League results for week FINAL 14 attached below (PDF). Full results at web site (Excel-friendly HTM, requires free Yahoo account): www.lunchtime.us. Full analysis to follow, when I recover. Thanks to all the players for coming out, and all the helpers for helping out (especially Albert Ricker, Shannon Helser, Will Odom, Sam Gibson, Chris Graham, David Megin, Julie Gorman, John Gorman, George Adams, Patrick Darr, John Stach, John Muirhead, Laurel, Laura, Wayne, Lynn, Caris, everyone else who helped out, GPBC, course creator Full-On Dave, we love you all!)!
All I can add at this point, (though I hope to wax poetic through statistical analysis before interest wanes): DAVID BABUKA HOLDS ON!
Amazingly even knowing he would miss the last 2 weeks of League, he WON THE whole thing, including the CUSTOM MACH III PORTABLE BASKET!
His wisest move in my opinion, LETTING EVERYONE KNOW he would be missing the last 2 weeks, thereby mentally mind-bending the ENTIRE COMPETITION, causing them to implode, melting down AGAINST EACH OTHER, and NO ONE bettered his 10-best total after week 12!!!
Don't think he didn't earn it either - whenever I happened to play Lunchtime who did I see - practicing alone? DAVID BABUKA!

Thanks Gawain and everyone else who helped out. Lunchtime league was great again this year, even though I wasn't able to make it as often as I would have liked.

It sure was a bummer to not head out to Lunchtime for league night tonight.
I made up for it putting on my new Mach Lite I won in the finals.:rockon: 1st in PRO
Thanks again Stern for another great season. I'm already looking forward to next year
