the 9 holer that was at WOU when I went there as a Grad student rocked! ;)
And Yang's, rice time and burgerville are the only 3 places worthy of eating at in monmouth... especially Yang's!

Dangit - I was out there yesterday too - would have been nice to catch up with you - played the little course and twice around the middle course netting out at even over the 54 holes of the day.

Now I know why that short course is really there...

I had my PB rounds on all three HH courses yesterday.

I didn't have an ETA, Troy, because I had to meet a guy from Beaverville to pick up a purchase I was making from Craig's List. I took loocid along to show me the way and drag me through all three courses. My feet hurt so bad... I was gone from Mud from 8:00AM to 9:30PM. Long day.

While I havn't played at courses in your areas (soon!!! May can't come quick enough) my PB at my main course in town, Kamloops BC, is a 50(-4) and at another one of our courses it's a 46(-8). For some reason I can't seem to get close to that -8 again though. Played a solid round there last week with little error and i was only 2 down.

Wanted to find out if this was in Monmouth.

Discussions in Dyed Discs led me to Bansky's art (http://www.banksy.co.uk/) and that image there sent me back here because of the KFC link.

Funniest thing since college kids in Astoria cut the life-sized Colonel Sanders statue off at the ankle and hauled him from the bench outside the KFC, for whatever college kids do with those things. I'm sure that was their personal best.

I have never shot an under round at Whistlers Bend for one reason or another. My personal best is 1 over in the original settings. Yesterday, I shot a 1 over, but this 1 over was a little more hard-earned . . . EVERYTHING is pretty much as deep as it can go right now. These more difficult pin settings really make ya work for it . . .

I was pretty darn happy with my round . . . double boge, single boge, and two birdies . . . and 4 coulda-been birdies that glanced off the basket or chains :pullhair:

James Hooper and I set the weekly doubles record at Adair last Sunday. (-15) 39. Birdied our first 10 holes (Hole 3 in the Mt. Everett position) - hole 12 in the left. Missed a forty footer on 13 for bird and then a thirty footer on 17 for bird. Took a 3 on 18 and then finished out on 1 and 2 with birds.

Magical round! hit four putts outside the circle between the both of us.

I finally threw Rooster negative yesterday after years of trying (-2).

Had an amazingly crappy West 9, coming out even where a good round is usually -2 and my best is -4 on the 9.

Then I went over to the East (wooded) side and threw a bogey free -2 for the final score.

Ironically, I played the first nine alone and a friend that rarely plays the back (west) nine rolled up to see if I was out there as I was walking up to one, so the actual heroics of the round were witnessed...

I'd like to dedicate the score to my new Pro Leopard. How I golfed for 5 years without you I will never know...

Well that's impressive. I can't imagine getting a three on both #3 and #8. Even #1 is tough without a perfect drive.

Nice flock of birds there Adam - Rooster East giveth and taketh away, definitely, but it gave me the weird ones - I'm usually good for at least 3 birdies back there, but I don't recall ever hitting that many!

I never figured I'd get my first negative round for the 18 by dropping strokes back there - I've never seen anyone par all of them, and I've seen at least one open player take a snowman on 3...

Things can get brutal out there.

Chuck, where is Geezer? Is that a nickname for one of the holes?

Well, I pretty much expect to get #4, #5, and #6. #7 is easy if the big tree doesn't slap you down in the gully, and #9 isn't hard if you execute your shot correctly. #2 takes some luck.

All I ever like to do, is make one shot better than I ever had before, each time I go out to play.
One drive thats longer, or one really good 50 foot putt.

At Seatac, on most holes I just try and get close in two shots, but even that can be pretty challenging.

After a disappointing warmup round with another player who posts here, on my second round, I birdied #3 for the first time ever, after playing the course for years now.

This is no big deal for most of you who can RHBH a drive down to within' 50' of the pin, but my best LHFH doesnt ever go past the last row of trees, so its a big deal for me.

And another personal best, so I'm happy for now.
Next challenge will be to birdie #4, that might take a little longer.

Hey I was happy on most shots to throw it farther than your girl did.

Greg saw my bird, and the two young dudes we were playing with.

Man it was CROWDED out there yesterday, I have never seen so many people out at Seatac, big groups and families, long waits at most of the holes on the back nine, I'm still blaming you, Dan, for telling everyone how awesome Seatac is.

whew... what a long weekend... 3 days of dela veaga, with 2 being in the long the whole way is a lot to handle. Started out good the first round, died hard at the end, then 2nd day complete opposite, +17 and +15, not what I wanted, but the 3rd day a few baskets got moved in a little closer but definitely not helping the SSA by much.. went out and just shot awesome golf, by far the most brutal for me since I had the fewest birds out of the top 10 guys and still had the best score on the weekend for the MA2 division with +3. Was looking at -1 or -2 but had a few unholy spit outs including one from around 55 feet on hole 15 that had me running to the basket and 10 witnesses cheering just to watch the most sick bounce out from dead center and a double bogey on 25. But I am definitely satisfied with the +3 since there were so many good shots in that round including a parked 2nd shot on the famous I-5 from 175ish out of the trees and a few glorious putts from 25-35 feet with cliff like landscape right behind the baskets like hole 2, 21 and 26 with nate and val watching as they spotted 26a. Jumped from 12th place to 6th place for a trophy, good feeling to have when you looking at a 3 and half hour drive back home with the pregnant wife and 4 year old sunburned and passed out heh... Definitely ready for Beaver State!

Also tied my P.B on Wreckreator with a 1 under. I've shot it twice in four rounds there so I'll take it. Of course, the other two rounds were abominations of what disc golf should be. The video from those two rounds should be entitled; "Disc Golf and You; How Not to Suck Like Me."

Beware of that slough. It looks like it is about 6" deep but that is just the silt layer. It is quicksand and you'll sink up to your waist. I found out the hard way.

I am sorry to hear you had to go wading. I am not sure if it is silt or sediment from the treatment plant! That sh*t smells nasty.

What about the NS? Everybody says that's the easier course, but I finished the Wrek under par 3 times before I threw -3 on the NS.

I have thrown a couple 2 downs on Northstar and I would agree that it is the easier of the two original 18's. It was just last November I believe that I even shot my first par on Wrekcreator. I do know a lot of people that have a lot of issues with all the dog legs on Northstar and that's what keeps them from shooting a hot round.

I took him to Vance because it was short and only nine holes.
I didn't even think he'd play the entire thing.
Well, since this is his first round of golf he did score a personal best.
Sure, it was an 87, but he's only five and he sure made his dad proud.
Now we have our sights set on the 2018 WBDS!

Shot -1 while guiding my bro around the course for his first time- a very relaxed round.

Here's a different kind of personal....
I think I just had my best 3 tourney rounds in the 10 years I've been playing.
The EC 2010.
Here are some things about those three rounds...
They ONLY gave me a 3rd place finish- though the best I've had in years.
This was only the second time I've managed to keep all three rounds over 900 rated in 10 years!- they were all over 920. I usually throw in a mid-800 round to demonstrate my lack of focus.

I didn't play great, but I played in a way I rarely do- consistently.
I only had 5 birdies all 54 holes. With NO birdies my final 45 holes! Not one at Dexter!?!
Mostly I felt in control of my game- for three rounds. That's rare.
It's not a typical personal best, but it sure felt personal and it was the best I've played in a couple years.

So I am happy.

Thanks, Wes, that was encouraging to read. That is, especially for someone who is playing so badly, he has quit 2 tournaments due to lack of fun this year. I have heard other masters talk about reaching a stage where the body simply will no longer do what the brain tells it to, and I think I have reached that stage. Say it ain't so, Wes!

Wes Hansen
September 19th, 2010, 11:03 AM
I guess I'm having the opposite year.
4 things seem to be different.
1. It's taken a few years of beating myself for not becoming a better golfer to actually learn to relax about my game. But that comes from NOT winning, not once, in 10 years. I no longer see not winning as failure. And I don't dwell on past throws. One of the advantaging to this aging thing is I can't seem to remember the last hole I played, so I no longer get down on my game because of a poor throw.
2. 10 months ago I got a 5 minute putting lesson from Tim S. Only about the placement of my feet. I paid attention and have kept applying what he said. I now miss less and, for the first time in 10 years, FEEL and KNOW I can putt. That's been kinda huge.
3. (For Gawain). 2.5 years ago I got laid off and went from working in an office to the first labor I've done in 20+ years. Other than being a full time vagrant that plays DG all the time, getting more exercise and getting in shape seems to be the next best thing. I don't feel as run down during a tourney as I used to. I know I've increased my power from what I had when I started at 38. There's hope. (Quit your office job and start digging ditches. You'll play better!)
4. My personal life is better. I am happier.

I still can't believe I birdied 4 of my 1st 5 holes (5 of 9) and then not one for 45 holes.

We're not getting older and lamer, we're becoming Legends.

Also finally broke into the fifties, carding a 59 w/ deuces on 1,3,5,9,10 and a three on 12 and 14. If only I knew how to putt, I coulda been a contender for 54! Someday....

Yesterday I shot a -1 for my first round of the front nine at the Pendleton course. Not a big deal for some as it’s a par 28 and fairly open and short, however solid putting and some killer upshots made this round one of my best, a birdie on a hole 6a, which I have never birdied before, helped too. Hole 8 was my only challenge of the round. I had a bad drive across the creek and had to get out from behind some woody edge of the creek brush that likes to grab discs and generally wreak havoc with your throw. My get out of trouble shot landed me about 60 feet from the basket, at this I decided that I would try a step putt and when it brushed the chains I thought they were going to reject my disc but instead it was slammed in to the basket. There was much rejoicing.
My second nine started out good with two pars and a birdie on hole 3 but after an awesome drive and what should have been an easy birdie on hole 4 turned into par my game went downhill from there and shot a 30 for the second 9.

There you go, put it right there:wink2:

To avoid thread drift, I believe I shot my personal best 'rated' tourney round(1026) as part of a DNF. It was more of a 'pressure-free' casual round though, as I had showed up at half-time of the Pretzelbowl, paid in, and joined a chill group. I thought I finished -2 or 3, but I ended up -7 due to four par 4's. The tourney round that I'm actually most proud of is a -7 (1000+) on the SE course at the Steily Spring Classic in '09-- tying Feldberg for the hot round of the day, on that course. For the record, I gave it all back on the NW course with a +7, and Feldberg had just finish slaying the NW course with a -9 or something(16 strokes diff. if you're counting).

Personal best at the memorial in tournament play all 3 rounds. But in different ways. The first round was my best score at fountain hills in tournament play with minimal mistakes and freak incidents. The 2nd and 3rd rounds were my best at both courses with all the freak things that happened showing that I have improved in my "get out of trouble" and "rebound" game.... If a bad round can be 945 rated, I'm happy.

Scott,
I read once where you should be perfect in your grammar if you intend to pick on those who aren't. What the hell is an intersting? Some kind of bee?
I do not think that grammar and spelling are no longer important.
What I think is important, is to not slam folks who have lesser grammar skills.
Unless it's been determined that both parties are basically fucking with one another. :biggrin2:
Gawain posted something about this awhile ago that really, really impressed me.
I think it had to do with him realizing that the content of ones words, holds more value than how it's spelled.
I suppose I could try and find it, or maybe he'll stroll and scroll here and post it again for all of you folks with superior grammar skills to read. :bowing:
Maybe you could climb out of the grammar box and see if there's something more being said in some of those old farts quotes. :wink2:

Most all of us play disc golf with a drive to improve. Few of us would care to put in no effort in this direction. It would be nice (somewhere, a disc hits a tree here) if this spread to all aspects of our lives. Spelling and grammar should not be a point over which we whip our fellows, but not caring to improve in this, or in anything in which we engage ourselves, might.

There's no doubt that the best of us fall short in presenting our thoughts in writing, and self-proof-writing is harder than proof-writing others' work, so we should all be slow to criticize. I will, however, remain a critic of those who don't care to try to improve. I guess this is because I, as a dyslexic and ADHD failure in my early scholastic days, had much to overcome. I still don't know (or understand) all the rules of grammar. Spell-checkers have taught me much and I rely heavily on these. But, I'm willing to improve, or at least try at my own level of ability. I honor others who do likewise.

If an author doesn't care enough to write a coherent sentence then how can he expect anyone to care enough to read it?

I love Bob's post - You don't have to be perfect, but at least demonstrate that you're trying. At least demonstate that you care.

A local watering hole is a pretty good analogy for what a message board boils down to. A place to come shoot the shit, see your friends, other regulars you don't know as well, sometimes new faces.

Accepting that then the question becomes; What type of bar do you want to hang out in? As Yose mentioned, should it be a place where newcomers are immediately mocked because they look or talk different?

I'm sure most anyone who has experimented with random bars, in random parts of the country knows the feeling of making a tactical error and feeling unwelcome from the first step in the door. To save face maybe you buy one cheap beer, pound it, and get the he'll out. Or maybe (started sentence with "or" :-p ) the uneasiness dies back and you get comfy, and have a conversation and another drink and by the time you leave your already thinking about goin back again.

Now imagine instead of just dirty looks and whispers you get a, "Ohhhhh we got a cracker," or, "Loook sir-ee at this city boy walkin in here," or whatever scenario you can imagine. Many would just leave immediately. And what is the end result? The new patron never gives the place a chance. Conversely the bar has less customers, diversity, and color.

Of course being called on bad grammar and abrasive socio-ethnic labeling are not analogous, but what they do share incommon is when done amongst strangers they are rather offensive and off-putting, but when done amongst friends can be much more benign or even funny.

Know your audience. Is it a regular? A buddy? A rival? A stranger?

What kind of bar do you like to go to??

Also that day I shot the front nine at -2 for the day ( slightly cushining my +14 on the back, scuffling and dragging my way to the best overall score that day. yikes that back is fierce)

Not too sure if I completely agree with your analogy (spoken communication is way different than written communication), but it is close enough to work in this context so we will go with it: So what if the new person who came up to the bar was unable to communicate with anyone in the bar? Now, if that person is not a native of the country and an obvious visitor most people would do their best to at least try and understand enough to serve them a beverage but there certainly won't be any deep philosophical discussions taking place...
But if the person grew up in this country and still can't communicate effectively, on even a basic level, what are you left to think?

Personally, I didn't realize that my quick one-off comment would start such a firestorm. It was just shocking to see such a lack of coherent communication, the likes of which haven't been seen since the old days on the previous board from a semi-famous poster named Herm.

So I will apologize for the lack of restraint on my part, welcome the poster with the hateful handle and just be glad that he enjoyed a good time at the Champoeg and Dabeny courses.:kissflowers:

I shot a 57 from the Black/Pro tees at Shelton Springs DGC on Monday (3/7). I had 6 birdies, and 0 bogeys! This is my best round by far at the Springs. I think that this round was a testament to how well you can score here if you play smart, meaning hitting your lines and birdie opportunities. My other scores here, since MCDG put in baskets, are a 63, a 64, and a 67. Shelton Springs is unique in that every hole can be birdied; only little do you know, that birdie is a carrot at the end of a stick.

I guess that's true... for some reason the U.S. Board on Geographic Names has apostrophobia. It's almost like, back in the day, they didn't have that key on their typewriter or something. So we get silliness like Marys River and Pikes Peak.

It's definitely capitalized though. :biggrin2:

The other placement for 18 is back East across the field the way you come from. Less than 50 yards from 16's basket but further North. It is normally the B placement but like you said, is all that is used when the field is wet. Nice round! Go to the SOWS thread and check out scores from recently. The weather was bad that weekend but you'll see that -5 compares nicely.

We took our little rouge valley "invitational" crew on the road to whistlers for our first tour stop of the season today. We played a point system over three rounds, dubz, singles, dubz so we could of course have a champ but also decide the seating in the packed car for the ride home. Of course as the driver and with no chance to improve my seat I took home the win. The PB was my singles round of 2- to tie my record there.

Sweet furthest from pin contest to break the tie and decide who sit's middle for the ride home. John was very excited to not lose. As unofficially official TD I can attest to being fitly rich in juicy whistlers sights and sounds, being accused at least a dozen times of wrongdoing on the format (thanx Tony, your turn next), and plundering all the sticky whistlers clay smeared on my discs.

Way to park 7 chase. My personal highlight was birding 6 with a backhand roller with a archangel.

Where for the next invitational?

Set my PB at Pier yesterday with a 49, -5. Many baskets in the long, it was a really smooth round. Started out hot - in the circle on 1 but came up short on the putt. Birdies on 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 put me -5. Chain out on 8 after a great upshot for a bogey. Birdies on 10 and 11 and then pars until 18 (though a spit-out on 16 for birdie) where I got another spit out for another bogey. Good fun round. I want more!

Man you guys are way better than me. Took me a long time just to finish the game, let alone a decent score. I am a beginner though.

Shot -5 at Greenway yesterday... definitely not gonna complain! Birdied 2-4, 7 and 8. Hole 6 counts as a par 3, of course.
