It's interesting to see that Tracey has those discs in her bags. I would had thought she would have some heavier discs than the 150s. She is an excellent player.

I am a much larger woman with quite some muscles in my arms so I tend to go towards the heavier discs (160s) and it feels comfortable with those in my hands.

My partner is learning her area of strength - which happens to be the forearm! Wow! She can only play when her back is not bothering her - so I'm happy when she can play!
In her bag?
Drivers
150g Innova Sidewinder
150g Innova Cheetah
150g Innova Viking
150g Innova Leopard
150g Innova Wraith

Midrange

167g Innova Stingray

Putter
175g Innova Pro-Pig (for putting)

Steve who is your girlfriend? Guys who post for their sig. others please post names or screen names, so us other chicks can know who you are talking about. This may be a really good way for more chickflickers to be brought into the fold. Like for monthly chickflicks, and our big tournament later this summer.

LegoRules... I use 2 laptops, a mac and a pc, just about all the time, so I can be a little fast, hence my nick name, SNAP, for the very exact reason...
And to answer Mystjava.... It took Tracey, my fiance', a long time to get down to these discs.. While I was still learning the weights and flights of all the discs, Tracey was throwing in the 165-170 range and it was not working at all, we decided to drop her down to the 145-162 range per a professional's advice and she has become more consistent. Even her putting game as improved with the 18g drop in putter weight. Even the women that I have played with, i have taken Tracey's 2nd 150 putter and replaced whatever 170+ putter they were using and they could tell the difference easily...
Men and Women cannot be compared for size and strength as they are developed internally very differently from each other. Men can throw heavier discs based on their anatomy, their muscles and their ability to coordinate more torque/snap to throw these discs in GENERAL.
Also, one thing I notice is that a lot of people try to throw every disc 100 percent to get the results they want and once they drop down to 90 percent, the disc goes hard overstable... to me that means they need to drop down the weight and stability of the disc... going all out everytime just to get that flight pattern you want will wear you out fast and lead to many overstable flights. Again that's just me from observations with Tracey and myself... My son throws 128-132 and that is quite heavy for him although he can get it to fly beautifully but would be better if he had some 100g discs...

Ahhh.. That's cool that Z's throwing some good discs! Glad to hear that.... Of course... I've noticed it also which is why I am trying to bring most of my discs to the lower 160's instead of the higher 160's. :-)

Cindy - try that Roadrunner out on your anny throws. I think that disc will hold the line better for ya than the Sidewinder will.

My bag's current lineup:

150 DX Destroyer - only used on holes where I need that hard fade at the end or a big S
150 DX Starfire - beat, used for anhyzers, super flippy.
161 DX Starfire - my go to driver
161 Champion Starfire - this one's on "trial" status in my attempt to switch over to Champion plastic. I'm not sold on it yet.
165 DX Valkyire - short tight hyzer shots mostly
175 DX Cro - approach and midrange
175 DX XD - putts

Ok this is what i can remember while I am sitting at work, I will be updating it when I get home to check my bag

165 Pro Valkyrie
165 Champion Firebird
165 ArchAngel
164 Champion Beast (brand new)
164 custom dyed Wraith (I have yet to throw it, trojan is way to easy to lose discs at)
163 glow #3 flyer (floater)
162 custom dyed Orc
160 DX wraith - taken from Zippyboy, I really want one at this weight in champion
158 champion Gazelle
154 champion Monarch
150 pro Teebird -L
150 Dragon
150 champion Banshee
149 tie dye Leapord
167 2007 Ace race disc (I have no idea what it is)
167 Buzz
167 champion Coyote
164 champion Shark
161 Star Kite
150 DX Kite
172 XD

I think I need to thin down my bag a little and start switching out depending on which course I am at, that seems like a ton of discs. Everytime we go disc shopping I pick up anything I can find in the 154-162 range, that is my prefered range and they are so hard to find.

I love seeing what other people are throwing and learning what I can most likely find in the weights I want.

I'm trying to figure out what I should be throwing, as a ground zero beginner. I'm very short (5'2"), and at least used to be 100 lbs dripping wet. I now weigh much more than that, but it's not muscle, so it's actually a detriment. I'm currently throwing my husband's 150 Dragon. I've been looking online for children's discs, and haven't found anything local. I'm thinking that maybe I should be throwing more like a 100 or something like that. They have seen some unweighted kids' discs (if I recall, the roc and the polecat), but I haven't found anywhere that gives the weight. The problem I'm trying to solve is that I currently get no distance. I'd say my average drive is about 30 ft. Do you think a lighter disc would help me with my distance? I tried Next Adventure, and they have some 139 putters, but I doubt that would help me any with my driving. I thought I'd try to get some advice before I order a children's disc blindly online.

There are lots of lighter disks then 150 (and for your referance all dragons are 150 and float), my son has a full bag and I have tried to throw quite a few of them and found them too light for me.

His lightest is a 119 Roc he got it in Portland from Disc Golf Depot, he also has some discs in the 130s and 140s, those are all either Innova or Lightning, he does have a really light Buzz but it was just a special run.

Do you only have a Dragon? Any midrange or putters?

Let me see if I can find you any links.

Well, the dragon isn't even, strictly speaking, mine. It's my husbands, and I've temporarily appropriated it. I'm trying to figure out what I can throw farther than 30ft before I buy anything. I wish there were some way to try before you buy... So, how would you know if a disc is too light or too heavy? I'm assuming that if you can't make it go, that probably means it's too light. As of yet, I've found no need for midrange or putters. Since I don't throw over about 30 ft, then everything is, by definition, a putter.:wink2:

Ok here are some

Drivers
Cobra starts at 124, I would suggest around the 136 (that is the weight that my son started throwing when he was 6) http://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProduct.php?p=50

Roc starts at 119, I would think about the 145, you can go lighter but as soon as you get your throw down it will be way too light for you. http://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProduct.php?p=26

Archangel at 148 http://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProduct.php?p=20

Gazelle at 146
http://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProduct.php?p=55&PPQT1=29

Midrange
Shark at 134 and up, it is a midrange disc so it should be a little heavier, maybe 146 http://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProduct.php?p=30&PPQT1=19

Kite starts at 150, my first mid range disc and I still really like it, in fact my son picked one up last time we shopped and really likes it too, lots of float http://www.discgolfcenter.com/main_displayProduct.php?p=170&PPQT1=19

Zippyboy also has some ligher weight discs for sale. He picks them up from Disc Golf Depot for people that live up in our area. I can check and see what he has tonight.

Ms Thing

You will find that you will want a midrange and a putter to help control your close shots. Even if you can't make it go very far you can really help your game if you can control them.

How close are you to Leverich park? We are going to be out there tonight playing and both my son and I have discs in our bags. That is a good way to try them out :).

Also the chick flick, think of all those light disc that people will have that you can try.

Why not both?

As a general rule, lighter is almost always better for the smaller arms.

I recently bought my wife Jenny some new discs to go with the hand-me-downs that I don’t use any more. She picked out a 180 aero and a 180 cobra, which are both great for beginners except that they are max weight. She tried different weights and she liked the feel of the heavier discs. Here’s the trouble, She is left handed but she wants her discs to go to the left. I wanted her to pick discs that felt good to her but now I am wondering if I should have insisted that she went with a lighter weight to begin with or gone with discs that are more understable. I have noticed that when she throws my old 167-168g Valkyries, she has an easier time controlling them. I currently have her throwing her discs with a lot of Anhy and I have told her that her discs will fly opposite to mine because she is left handed but she seems determined to get her discs to fly like mine. Her frustration starting to frustrate me. Any ideas?

I don't think I want to tade her in, I kind of like her...

We tried sidearm and well... I guess we will jsut need to do more feild work. She is fairly athletic so I'm sure she will get it.

try to get her to read this thread and see what the other ladies are throwing... I've been golfing for 12 years and only in the last few months have started throwing drivers that are not 150 class (I'm so impressed with my muscles these days being able to throw 161-165g)... women are built much differently than men and therefore we probably need to be throwing something different than men... it's just a fact of life... if she keeps throwing max weight she's never going to get the joy she should be out of the game... I also recommend for beginners to not throw champion plastic... dx and prod are much easier to control... I myself am quite partial to star...

good luck and keep that lady huckin'

Thanks for the advice (I think hearing the same things I've told her from another woman helped), She says she will try out some lighter weights. We also figured out that although she is left handed she throws alot better with her right.

Also don't forget about the Chick Flick coming up August 7th & 8th at Horning's Hideout. We will have clinics on the first day along with a causual mixed division round, and then on Sunday we will have a PDGA ladies only tournament. The first year we had about 50 ladies, and then last year we had about 75. All different levels from never played to open.

my amiga monica also is lefty but throws righty... there may have been a thread about that on here a while back, in fact... i hope your honey finds herself the right discs and becomes as in love with this game as I am (and sounds like you are, too...). It can be frustrating to be a lady trying to figure out her game with only dudes to compare yourself, too... at the same time, it can really drive you to up your performance and be stronger and throw farther simply because if they can then dammit so can you!

In my wifes bag

1 DX Sonic 175g
1 DX Aviar BB 175g

1 DX Kite 150g
1 DX Skeeter 150g
1 KC Roc 150g
1 DX Gator 150g

1 DX Viper 150g
1 DX Leopard 146g
1 Pro TL 151g
1 Champ Teebird 152g

1 X Surge 145g
1 Champ Sidewinder 150g
1 Champ OLF 150g
1 R-Pro Boss 138g
1 DX Destroyer 150g

Main distance driver is the Sidewinder (250ft)
Main Fairway is her TL (dead straight for her)
Main approach is her Sonic (heavy so dead straight again)

She also uses her Gator a lot for hyzers
Her surge is SUPER flippy and she rolls with it, or big turn overs
She uses her kite a lot too for shorter controlled turn overs
I just got her a 150g KC Roc that will be getting worked in.

All 150-class X Surges are super flippy; they're just like 150g DX Wraiths.

150 stingrays are the best disc in my opinion for any beginner. I have introduced 3 people to the sport in less than 6 months and all of them hit it off immediately with the stingray. And of course when they improve, stingray stays in the bag for soft straight forgiving glide or turnovers.

Ladybuzzz - no champ leopard? ;)

My woman is out of commission for at least another 6 months, baby #2 on the way ;)
But she told me the other day, she loves me for finding her the old school ceish pro leopard that has totally changed her game. She used to rely on a buzzz but now likes her 150 kc pro roc. She also went from a 168 putter to a 150 star avair.
Her bag has changed a bit in 10 months...

stingray, eclipse... light dx valk...

all good discs for beginners and very good advice for folk just getting into the game. it's hard to not want to throw the shiny, pretty champion or other fancy types of plastic when you are first starting out, but it is so important to throw the discs that fit your abilities, skills and strengths. I no longer have any desire for the shiny new plastic and have a bag full of such old, dirty discs that i get teased regularly by some of my friends... and between the two pinkies i lost out at trojan i am much more distressed by the loss of my old, faded star valk i've had for 5 years than the brand spankin' new hot pink avenger... oh, Pinkie! I miss you so!

Remember I told you that I lost ODDGC Champ Leopard at my town's city park..:headbang: so that is why I asked you if you have one in stock but you don't have the 150g :waaah: but I like 150g Star Leopard better.

Here is my wife's bag (dont think I've actualy posted it):
167g DX Valkyrie
168g DX Valkyrie
150g CH Valkyrie (I know it's Champ but it's a good disc I almost didn’t give it to her except my arm out grew it. She actually gets great distance with this one.)
180g DX Cobra (what can I say I told her to find a disc that felt comfortable in her hand)
150g DX Stingray (got this last night)
180g CH Aero (what can I say I told her to find a disc that felt comfortable in her hand)

The Chick Flick sounds fun; we will have to see what our schedule is in august as my brother is getting married (not sure, when that is). She really loves this sport. We are still working on her throwing form however, once we found her correct throwing arm she has begun to excel. In fact, yesterday she threw a 39 on the 27 par 9 hole course here in Pendleton. With a little more practice, I think she will hit par within the year.

Thanks all for the Stingray recommendation. My wife can roll it twice as far as she can throw it. The first time it happened to her was an accident and she was upset then I told her that her throw was at least twice as far as she was making it go in the air. Boy does that disc love to roll.

As long as it isn't cold it just flops to the ground and dies if you miss which is sweet. I got a new Japan Open one coming, the one I use now is one of the prototype ones.

Which kind did you get?

... i'm glad you spoke up about this... i recently put a couple 160g valks in my bag and have a 165g for when it's windy... but i throw light other than that, 150g, baby... all the ladies i play with who throw super long also throw light... a couple of my girlfriends stubbornly refuse to throw anything lighter than a 167g i think just 'cause they don't like to be told what to do...

hope i didn't piss any of you ladies off... but it doesn't make sense for us to throw as heavy (or heavier!) than dudes... our muscles just aren't as big... unless you're juicin'...

99 percent of women do not have enough testosterone in their bodies to develop muscles like men do... anyways, yeah that sounds like some of the masters or grandmasters players that I have played with and tried to get them to move down weights cuz they complain they can't throw as far as they did last year and they hurting after rounds etc... It's part of the game, gotta adapt. Before I really understood this part of the game, I had Tracey throwing 164-170 and she struggled a lot. Then I did my homework and found out she should be throwing 145-160, got her a few discs and her game transformed into something much more stable and fun for her. Now all her discs range from 146-154 with the exception of her buzzz's and windy day putter. Her go to drivers are a 150g champ valk and 150g ce-pro leopard (i recently found a beautiful backup 150g ce-pro leopard and she loves me more now)
Also, for kids, give them 118-135g discs. Zayne has many discs and his new fave is a disc I picked up at final9, a dx 130g cobra, he's getting 75-100 feet consistently with that.

haha! recently my dad has started noticing that all of a sudden i am throwing almost as far as he is on our drives... funny, dude just put a 150g valk in his bag and keeps eyeing my 150g boss... he's very adaptable... and doesn't want to spend another year throwing lefty 'cause of his tendonitis like he did a year and a half ago...

i shouldn't even be butting in since i've never been to whistler's, but i've had great luck throwing a 150g champ sidewinder very straight, very long and very downhill... i throw my xd down the hill on #8 at meadow ridge and nearly put it on the green last time i was out there...
