Is there a fee for non-pdga members to play?
RonTheWhip
April 7th, 2009, 09:28 PM
Yes, but that is out of my hands. If I could I'd waive it myself i would, but I can't. Apparently there are new policies though, I'll have to brush up on it. Something like a pdga membership with minimal benefits (plus the ten bucks goes towards your full membership if you decide to pull the trigger).

You can caddy for me man, Team Nate^2
It would be great to have some Stumptown support for the WOXI, I think it can be a fitting finale to our very popular series, maybe someday we can use all 5 of the area courses and try to fill a 360 player event in a day!

Goood deal, I'll def caddy a round or two, depends on how it goes and when I can come down, which day(s) and that sort of thing... Definitely will come down though...
5 courses and ONLY 360?? come on bro, I'm thinking 500 easy...

And when you say 5 area courses that means Adair, Willamette, Bryant, Timber, and ????
My guess would be Adair, Willamette, Bryant, Waterloo and Timber Linn. It would have to be at least a 3-day tourney to play all 5 courses...:chinscratch::drool::pirate:
Nate Sexton
April 9th, 2009, 06:42 PM
Waterloo is correct, and it can still be two days because everyone does not need to play all 5. I always dream of a Pro A-tier Am B-tier (because then non-pdga ams can still play which is a big deal for locals) If it ever happens you could have 360 players play 3 rounds and a final in two days without waiting for any flights. I doubt we could fill 360 but it would be so cool if we did it, it would be like #3 in the world behind Am worlds and BG ams.
I think we need to do all we can to avoid turning away players from our events, we want to grow the sport so we need to make it so everyone can play. If we make a big effort to increase the capacity of our events (not easy logistically I know) and our current registration pace/general excitement keeps up, Oregon could really become one of the biggest hotbeds for disc golf in the world.

I really think that the key to filling a tourney with 360 AMs is offering all 4 of the AM divisions. If we can get past the stupid divisional names (and the stigma attached to them) and the players play in the correct division for their ratings I can see it happening.

Well one way to go at it is to make all fliers, and forum threads on the tournament stick to the MA1-MA4 labeling... and make it clear what the guidelines are...
MA1 - 935+
MA2 - 900-934
MA3 - 850-899
MA4 - 849 and below
And anyone who uses the "taboo" words are automatically ejected from the players list lol..

Recreational. Recreational. Recreational. :nahnah:
This word totally implies someone who gets together with his buddies and throws frisbees in the park while drinking beers. Once they even get near a tournament, they become a novice.
Jordan Lewis was actually in my group when I graduated from Recreational to Novice (though according to the PDGA, my philosophy is backwards). Hopefully, he'll be in my group when I graduate from Advanced to Advanced Masters.

This word totally implies someone who gets together with his buddies and throws frisbees in the park while drinking beers.
This is a good example of why many people feel the PDGA AM divisions are not properly named.
According to the PDGA, a recreational player is someone who has a rating higher than 850 but lower than 900. End of story.

Hey Dion,
Just wanted to clarify. Is this a sanctioned event? I did not notice it on the PDGA schedule and was thinking this would be a good intro for my girlfriend Erika but she is not a member and we need to know if there will be the added $10 dollar non-pdga fee. Thanks for the info!

C tier used to be the pdga tourney level where you didn't have to pay extra, not any more, it'll cost an extra $10.

Agreed. Dion rocks! Great job throwing together a tournament to help out one of the premier events in our state. Also much appreciation is in order for being cognizant of the ratings deadline; I know I personally am very thankful, since this tournament will knock a particularly painful experience out of my top 25% of tournaments currently rated.
Thanks Dion!
