View Full Version : The Rose Bud Almost Open 2013 April 21st

Here it is again - the Rose Bud Almost Open coming at you for the second year on Sunday April 21st at Timber Disc Golf course. This will be a one day unsanctioned event played on the same course as last year, an 18 hole par 59 safari course. If you talked to anybody from last year that played I'm sure they will tell you how fun and challenging it is.

More information will be posted as it becomes available but this is your official warning to mark your calendars, notify your wife or husband (or not, depending on how you deal with these golf events), and tell your in-laws not to visit that weekend unless it's to watch the kids....

Registration or check in from 8-8:30 and first round tee off at 9am. First round will be mixed divisions and the second will be based on division and score.

Awesome. :)

Ok, the proverbial ball is rolling. This will once again be a fundraiser for the Rose City Open. All divisions will have a $30 entry fee, $10 of which will goto the RCO and everything else will be paid out back to the players. Disc Golf Depot is on this year to do the script for the event.

Two rounds on the Timber Safari 18 hole par 59 layout. Non sanctioned. I'm working at getting some refreshments lined up again this year. Natian Brewery was kind enough to donate about 2 kegs of 3 different kinds of beer last year which lent well to the over all fun, and I'm sure effected scores in a variety of fashions. Please, if you intend to imbibe at this event (or any other, for that matter) please make sure you have safe passage home.

Registrations will be up at FireFly hopefully by Thursday this week. A link will be posted when it's online. If you prefer you can get payment to me directly if you want to cut out the computer stuff.

FYI, There is a poop-ton of poison oak in the bushes next to hole 1's basket below the erector set power-line thingy.

Bart
March 14th, 2013, 09:43 AM
Well if you end up in the poison oak in the erector set you've really messed up your up shot. I don't think I heard of anyone going in there last year. There was debate about wether to go around the erector set to the left or to the right. Shorter distance to the right but tighter, longer to the left but more open. There are more than a few of these decisions to make on the course.

But thanks for the heads up and I'll make sure to include it in the players meeting.

Registration is now open at...

I'm talking about the one 20' behind and right of the basket. And for what it's worth, I carded a birdy 3. :nahnah:

Now I know where you are talking. Will be mentioned, and congrats on your birdie three last year. May you do it again this year...

Will Disc Golf Depot be onsite to redeem script or do you have to go to Jerry's?
Thanks Bart!

Jerry wasn't sure last time i talked to him if he was going to be able to be at the tournament, but was going to know more as the date approaches. I would guess the there's a high probability that yes, he will be there. He was talking about finding someone to watch the shop while he was out there and since it was still a month out (last time we talked), I don't think they have the shifts at the depot scheduled out that far in advance. As I find out more I will post...

Oh, and I'm happy that this year hole #18 will be played as originally intended. Last year construction on the fish counter prevented us from using the tee pad by the lower lot. We had to tee off from the top of the bowl. But this year it will play as I had originally intended. Tee from current pad #20 (bottom of the bowl) and plays to basket #21 (by the entrance to the service road). Have fun thinking about how you are going to play that first shot.

Whats the registration list look like? That is if it isn't too much of a pain to post

Bart
April 10th, 2013, 09:35 AM
Just got back from out of town and tried to post the reg list but was unable to do so without listing everyone's personal data along with it. Will work on that and hopefully get it up soon.

An updated map will be posted soon as the layout and numbers on some of the holes are different at Timber this time around.

Should be able to tell you who our beer sponsor will be this year within the week as well...

There's only about a week left for online registration so if you haven't done it yet and are on the fence, decide which side you are going to fall off of.

I'll post times for the rounds and such soon here too. I believe it will be a 9AM tee off. No need to start too early on a Sunday.

Basically there's a list of stuff I plan to do this week, that and some laundry. I'll let you know how it goes...

Especially the laundry. If it goes well for you, I might give mine a go... :)

Looking forward to this, Bart.

Here's the current registration link...

http://www.4discgolf.com/reports/public.php?model=RBUD

Last year at this time we were at about the same numbers and the tournament was just shy of filling. So you know the drill. Contact me if you have unusual problems that prevent you from going about the standard registration process and really want to play. Being a moron doesn't count as "unusual"

The good news is Mark from Calapooia is coming up from Corvallis to play. The even better news is that he's bringing a keg of beer for us to drink.

Drink Calapooia beer! Give Mark a big hug and a kiss when you see him!

Any chance we can pay day of, Bart?

Bart
April 14th, 2013, 07:04 PM
Yeah, this is one of those old time laid back tournaments and we will accept day of sign ups. It's about half full right now, so you can compute the odds. It's definitely better than the Blazers making the play offs, but not as good as going all in with two pair...

Bruce
April 14th, 2013, 07:20 PM
I'd rather just avoid the fees for online signups and give the extra few bucks to the Rose City, that's just me personally though.

Bart
April 15th, 2013, 02:24 PM
I understand. Of course it's easier from a tournament director's standpoint to get people registered before the day of, but it's also sort of nice when back before the days of tournaments filling in 35 minutes you could decide over a beer at 11:30 the night before, sure, I'm going to drive to Corvallis in the morning and play this and that tournament, or you snail mailed your registration form in only costing the price of a postage stamp.

However the online fee is pretty low (about $2 I think?). But as I said it's cool with me if you want to sign up day of. There's about 42 or so people registered so about 30 slots left. We'll do our best to make sure everyone that shows up will get to play.

LIke I said, it's a laid back tournament in the style of the earlier days of disc golf. Just too bad we aren't running this up on Mt. Tabor...

I'm driving up from Corvallis. Is any one looking for a ride from Corvallis, Albany, or Salem. Send me a message if you are looking for a ride.

Bart
April 17th, 2013, 09:24 AM
Registration was down over night. For some reason I set it to end yesterday at 5pm. Anyways, it should be back up soon here and stay open until 5pm on Saturday. There's also about 50 people singed up right now, with many others (around 20) that I have talked to hoping to sign up the day of. If you want to make sure you have a spot, sign up on-line. If you can't do that, contact me and I'll get you on the list. People who have contacted me or, clearly, signed up, will be given priority for spots the day of if there's limited space.

Disc Golf Depot will be on site for script redemption and your plastic needs. There is a really good chance that we'll have some food available at the course for lunch so that you don't have to get in your car and go to town, just stay there and eat and drink Calapooia beer.

About ten spots left for online registration to make 72 players. If you want to insure a spot then get yourself signed up. Or you can take your chances with day of. Like I said, we'll do our best to make sure everyone that shows up will get to play. Thanks for all the interest and looking forward to Sunday...

Hemmerling, it's called reading. Top to bottom, left to right. Take Midol from any cramps, Tylenol for any pains.

Since chance indicates the possibility there might not be food, it's a reasonable question, yes?
Either way, I'll see you all there! :)

So the online sign ups have sold out. Contact me to get on the "wait list". We'll make sure everyone that wants to play will get to. Got room for two ghost groups or we can do a few five one depending on what people prefer. Just got back from setting up the course and should be fun and a little tougher this year on a couple holes. Like I said, call me if you want to play or show up in the morning and we'll make room for people.

My number is 503-593-1007

See you guys tomorrow!

I just wanted to give a huge shout out to Bart Yanoch for, once again, putting on an awesome Rosebud Almost Open. Bart's Timber Safari layout is a blast, and I know everyone I played with had a great time.

Also, a huge thank you to Jerry Miller and Disc Golf Depot for being there to provide lunch and scrip for the players, and to Mark Martin and Calapooia Brewing for the keg.

Good times indeed!

Bruce
April 22nd, 2013, 06:15 PM
Yes, I know that disc well. I was waiting for someone to put it on the table to pick it up for my buddy since he had to leave, but alas that never happened. I'll send you a private message with his contact info.

Edit: And speaking of lost discs, I lost a silver 2013 Pro World star tern on tourney hole 8. No name or number in it since it was about..10 minutes old. Would like to get that back as well! Thanks!

Thanks everyone for coming out and making the tournament so much fun. And once again I'd like to thank these people...

Disc Golf Depot / Jerry Miller
Stumptown DGC
PGE / Joe Marvel
Jeff Hagerty
Eric Lund
Justin Hiatt
Dan'l Langer
4DiscGolf / Ryan Gwillim
Calapooia Brewing / Mark Martin

For everything they did to make this tournament run smooth, go smooth, and finish smooth. Results are above (obviously). Everyone who won cash stayed to pick that up but there were a few folks that have script waiting for them. Contact me regarding how we can get that to you, and it can be redeemed at Disc Golf Depot anytime. Jerry was nice enough not to put expiration dates on the script. Here are those people...

Casey Kimball $25
John Blatt $40
Mike Philips $30
Jamison Holtz $55

Once again thanks for coming out and playing. We'll do it again next year.

I would also like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in making this fun event happen.

I enjoyed the "old school" mixed divisions in round one, the safari layout was grand, the food and beverages were tasty, and the company was enjoyable!

Thank you! I'll see you next year!

Thanks so much Bart, Jeff, Jerry, and all the helpers for a great tournament day! We had a blast, and it was so good to see all the Portland peeps and start the tournament season off with a fun one!

Note: Crawdad lost 2(!) Fort Stielli Champ Destroyers in the poo pond, so if someone is insane enough to try to retrieve discs outta that thing, please give him a call if you find them! Thanks
