2013 Beaver State Fling
presented by Keen Footwear, Next Adventure & Innova Disc Golf
A PDGA National Tour Elite Series event

Stumptown Disc Golf is once again partnering with KEEN Footwear, Next Adventure and Innova Disc Golf to bring you the 2013 Beaver State Fling on the weekend of June 28th - 30th. This PDGA National Tour Elite Series event will once again take place at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada, Oregon, where two spectacular 18 hole courses play along the banks of the Clackamas River. The Beaver State Fling (www.beaverstatefling.com) has a long tradition of excellence that draws the very best disc golfers in the world back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest year after year. Once again, tournament directors Jeff Mittl and Jeff Hagerty have joined forces to carry on the tradition.

In addition to the NT and the A-Tier we will also have plenty of side events to entertain the masses before, during and after the rounds, including our epic 18 hole mini disc golf course. As with years past, we will again be using both the East and West courses which are played as pro par sixty-one with lengths in excess of 8000 feet.

As we have in years past, we will be offering 160 Professional spots for the NT event, and 144 Amateur spots for the A-Tier event. As always, we are hoping more ladies will make the trip this year to compete for the crown and help round out the field of competitors. Professional divisions will be playing 2 rounds on Friday, competing for the choice mid-day tee times on Saturday. Their final round will be held on Sunday to wrap up the weekend of competition. The Amateur Divisions will be playing two rounds on Saturday with tee times. The first round will be in the morning and the second round will be in the later part of the afternoon. The third and final round will be with tee times on Sunday morning.

Ratings Based Professional Registration:
Due to the overwhelming demand for this event and our own desire to attract the very best players this sport has to offer we will once again be instituting tiered, ratings-based registration for the NT side of the event.

Here is how tiered, ratings-based registration will work:
• Phase 1: 03/18/2013 @ 6:00pm PST - Registration opens for all 1000+ rated Professional players, plus all FPO women.
• Phase 2: 04/01/2013 @ 6:00pm PST - Registration opens for all 970+ rated professional players, plus all age-based professional divisions.
• Phase 3: 04/15/2013 @ 6:00pm PST - Registration opens for all remaining professional players.

Important Notes:
• Do not ignore your registration window. This event will fill quickly.
• We will have division size caps in place to ensure non-MPO divisions remain viable.
• Anyone attempting to register before their tier is open will have their registration rejected.
• We will be holding a limited number of slots for 2013 National Tour Champions and returning 2012 Beaver State Fling MPO & FPO Champions.
• We require at least 4 players to create a division.

Professional Division Sizes:
(Note: these may change slightly based on registration trends. For example: If we receive more than 20 FPO registrations in the first phase of registration we will accept those entries.)

Division - Initial # of Slots
MPO - 80
FPO - 20
MPM - 32

This leaves 28 slots available for "other" professional divisions provided they meet the four players per division requirement.

Amateur Registration:
Registration for the amateur side of this event has proven to be quite the undertaking in the past. Historically, the event has filled so quickly that registration felt more like a case of who has the best internet connection, or who can race home to get registered in time. In an attempt to make this as fair as possible for everyone, and with the support of our sponsors, we will again be holding a lottery for amateur registration. You must be a current PDGA member in order to enter the lottery.

We will open BSF lottery pre-registration AT 6:00PM on 03/25/2013 and it will remain open until 4/7/2013. During that time period anyone who would like to play in the event can pre-register for the lottery at no cost. At the end of the pre-registration window we will sort all prospective players by division and begin randomly pulling names. We will then send an email to those people containing an email link where they can formally register for the event. Players who are selected will have 2 weeks to register for the event, after which time their slot is forfeited and it goes back in to the pool.

Once the event has filled, all remaining names from the initial two week pre-registration window will be randomly sorted and placed on the waiting list. If a slot opens we will pull names from the waiting list in order.

Important Notes:
• We will have division size caps in place to ensure non-MA1 divisions remain viable.
• We require at least 4 players to create a division.

Amateur Division Sizes:
(Note: these may change slightly based on registration trends. For example: If we receive more than 16 FA1 registrations we will accept those entries.)

Division - Initial # of Slots
MA1 - 72
FA1 - 16
MM1 - 32

This leaves 24 slots available for "other" amateur divisions provided the division meets the four players per division requirement.

We understand some people may not approve of our lottery system, but after much deliberation we decided this method of registration was as fair as we could possibly make it. We hope people understand the dilemma we face when putting on an event with far greater demand than available spots.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us through the Beaver State Fling website.

One quick note to all AMs who are thinking about entering the Beaver State Fling amateur lottery this year.

You must be a current PDGA member in order to put your name into the lottery.

All lottery entries received by non-current members will be rejected. This means you must show as current in the PDGA database BEFORE you enter your name. No exceptions.

I understand this might be a challenge for some people, but that is exactly why I am giving you this head start by posting this right now. Please don't wait until the last minute to renew your membership... it will not work out well for you.

The goal of the Beaver State Fling staff is to bring you the very highest quality event we can, and this is simply one aspect of that goal. Thank you for your understanding.

Can you enter the lottery if you're a PDGA member but not current, and then make sure your current prior to paying/registering?
I think this is what I did 2 years ago.... the reason that I ask that this may be one of the only sanctioned events that I get to play this year.
Thanks either way--

If we get another 4 women to sign up for the wait list, I will steal a card from the dudes and open up another card for the ladies! How about it ladies?

Fun times with the sort function...

Several people have emailed me to let me know they accidentally entered the wrong PDGA number, and or signed up twice. They wanted to make sure I knew what they had done, and wanted to make sure I didn't think they were trying to get away with something...

My objective is never to make sure people DON'T get their name, it is to make sure everyone get their names in fairly. With that in mind, I will do a little investigating to correct PDGA numbers etc... in these cases.

Only then will I swing the AXE! Muhahaha!

There are a number of reasons this might happen, but the reality is people ALWAYS wait until the last minute and it takes the PDGA weeks to update their member list.

I will be confirming membership status for every one of them ASAP.

Just and idea on the Lottery System... It possible to do a points system like ODFW does for hunting. If you are not drawn this year you have better odds the next year and so on until your drawn then you go back to 0...?

It's great to see and event that is so popular IMO... Keep it up!

I am already using a simplified weighting method for the the lottery this year.

Basically, everyone who enters the lottery gets their name in the hat twice... except the people who played the event last year. They only get their name in once. This gives everyone a chance to get in, but leans towards those who didn't make it in last year.

I'm not, however, going to track for multiple years. I have enough paperwork to do already.

Alright Everyone. Here are the results of the 2013 BSF Lottery. I'd just like to say I'm happy for all of you who made it in, and I really do feel badly for everyone who didn't. This is not an easy task, especially knowing you're making three times as many people mad... as you are making happy.

I will be mailing out invited within the next couple of days. Once I send the invites out, you will have a 2 week window to register or you forfeit your spot. I will pass the invite on to the next person on the wait list.

I will post the wait lists for these divisions within the next day or two.

With how hard the volunteers work and how much time they put in I wouldn't ask them to take on a second weekend. But if you want to find a volunteer team and uphold the standards already set I am sure no one would complain if you ran an AM weekend.

I hate to break the news to you, but that is highly unlikely. Not only are our main sponsors not interested in supporting split weekends again, but it puts way to much strain on our staff and our awesome volunteers. Although we have the best volunteer army in the game... asking these people to give up two full weekends is asking a bit too much.

AGREED! I for one appreciate all that the Jeff's do for the BSF... I'd say, even if you were lucky enough to be selected in the AM Lottery, you really should consider volunteering on BSF Friday, AND then compete on Saturday and Sunday. It really is a blast and a great way to give back to the best tournament in the country. Believe me, it pays phenomenal dividends. :)

Does the waitlist for the BSF coincide with the time/order each person signed up for the BSF lottery? Reference: http://www.4discgolf.com/reports/public.php?model=BSFAM ...I for one hope so!

Not to be the dick but why is lockhart on the registration twice 5th and 4th to last get bsf's csi on this

Don't ya just love how some folks will go over every single name in the lottery with a fine toothed comb, yet still somehow NOT manage to read the part about our deleting ALL duplicate entries ;)

Haha, I was definitely someone who went through every name yesterday. I wrote down, and counted 29 multiple entries with some people using a different first name with the same PDGA number.

***What a waste of time that was!!!

...I read later that they went through and cleaned up the list BEFORE the lottery in an earlier post. Haha, so I'm confident that it was fairly done even if one or two happened to slipped in through wizardry.

I think it went 14 spots in last year. You should be just fine, man.

This is pretty close.

I think we got down to 23 or something last year... and a little higher the year before.

You're in good shape Jon.

This isn't directly at anyone specifically, but I feel this really needs to be said.

Jeff and Jeff are doing the best they can with a difficult situation. There's like 500 (pro/am) trying to play in the BSF. There's not a "perfect" way to make this happen, but I think they are doing a FANTASTIC job organizing this top notch event... this can't be an easy task.

I know the players not selected are disappoint, but 300+ players HAD to get disappointed, you know?

I'm looking forward to seeing all the players, their caddy's, and the volunteers in June!

Thanks a bunch Danni! I can confirm this is tough task indeed. No one wants to be the bearer of bad news... particularly when so many of those disappointed people are your friends.

And that's ok. It's life!
We will deal with it and hope for a better result next year!
