I can't believe it is already the 7th AFD but we are back again this time with a 24 hole layout and all the tricks and treats you could ever want!

AFD VII is a bring your own partner doubles event. Round 1 features tough shot and alternate shot formats. This year we will be playing 10 tough shot holes (in two seperate groups of 5) and 14 alternate shot holes. The hope is this will improve speed of play which has always been tricky mixing these two fun formats. Round 2 will be 24 holes of blissful best shot!

As usual there will be many special rules including the now infamous doughnut putting circles, the dreaded LINE OF DEATH, warp zones, mini baskets, island holes, hanging baskets, the forbidden tree, along with some new secrets!

We split the pros and ams again opposite the Whistlers SOWS event so road warriors can still play both!

Lunch will be provided and is included with entry. We will probably have COSTCO pizza again along with drinks and hopefully a keg of Calapooia. Amateur teams will recieve a disc each as a players pack.

Registration will be up shortly on www.4discgolf.com so get your partners figured out and reserve your spot. The am side has filled every year and we can only allow 48 teams!

Entry Fees:

Open: $80
Masters: $70
Adv/Adv Masters/Adv Women: $60
Mixed (M/F): $50
Intermediate: $50
Recreational: $40

Hope to see everyone back this year under sunny skies!

Hey Nate,
I have a couple questions for you. First, I was trying to sign up on 4discgolf and there was NOT an option for mixed. Second, in years past you offered discounts to teams for the pro day that also played the Am day, and I was wondering if you were going to make that same offer this year? This is by far my favorite event of the year. Looking forward to it again!

Thank you
David Zimmerman

I will check on the mixed situation, should be fixed up online soon. We will again offer half price for the pro day to teams that pre register for both days.

To get the discount you have to be:

1. Eligible to play Am
2. Playing with the same partner both days

This year with the pro day being first we will need pre registration for both days and then we will give you a refund of half at check in Sunday morning!

Just an FYI, still no option to sign up a mixed doubles team on the Am day, only on the Pro day.

Glo Z Buzzz

Soft X Challenger
Cryztal Z Challenger
Glo Z Nuke

With the stamp pictured above! I don't know about you guys, but I still have my Meteor from last year and it has quickly become one of my favorite discs! Which disc from last year is your favorite?

As an added bonus for a winning team this year I will be adding in two tournament style Discraft bags. I haven't decided how to pick the division that will win, any thoughts? Other possible categories to win the bags: Sportsmanship award, most spirited team, most AFD penalties, hehe...

Total penalties + single highest score of one hole. 14 penalties + an 11 on one hole, 25 points!

I'm looking to sign up for mixed too. Are you referring to it saying "sold out"? With 47 remaining, I doubt it is sold out.

Mixed should be ready to go, we are no where near sold out so do not worry.

I think the bags should go to the team with the highest:

(Total penalties) - (Highest single hole score)=Bag points

Those guys/gals are scrappers!!

UPDATED PLAYER LIST! 27/48 spots taken for Sunday's Am Day! Get signed up at www.4discgolf.com

I plan to offer mixed both days as an amateur division paying out in scrip. I am not excluding anyone from playing in the mixed division based on PDGA pro or am status. I did not plan to offer the half price deal to teams playing both days because there really is no "pro" mixed division. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Mixed will be a fun time both days though and the payouts will be deep and flat!

definitely the meteor! I'm still mourning the loss of my afd meteor from last year. I picked up two to replace it, but they are just not the same...must be the afd Dion silhouette. Now there's two. That means they're twice as good....its only logical. I won't be able to play afd but is there any way I can get my hands on a couple of those meteors? Or are there only enough for players packs/ scrip payout?

The Bingo cards look great. :yay:

First timer, so lots of questions. How does one get donuted? What is the line of death? Turkey = 3 birdies in a row? Forbidden trees? How do the warp zones work? Should the bingo card say tough shot instead of worst shot, or do we take an extra putt to earn that one?

I'm guessing these will be covered in the player's meeting.

I'm not going to spoil the surprise if you are a first timer. I will say that turkey does mean 3 birdies in a row and the worst shot should probably say tough shot to minimize confusion. All the other gimmicks you need to ask your partner or wait for the fun on Sunday!

Thanks everyone for another great year of donut putts and forbidden trees! Another year come and gone, hard to believe we've been doing this for seven years!

A few notable AFD firsts:

Hanging Basket was stolen Saturday night, so with a little luck you'll see a new portable basket hanging from the tree next year. Note to self: it will be taken down between days.

Mixed was offered both days and the unique winners shot a 144 and 145 respectively - nice shooting guys and gals!

A record 74 teams competed this year for the biggest AFD ever! Can we break 100 next year?

Thanks Dion and Nate for a great tourney! We had a fun time and everything was really well organized and the flow was really good....We shot awful but still had fun! Interesting that first place in intermediate is only four strokes behind first place in advanced......Is that normal?! Thanks again and see ya next year!

Thanks Casey!

intermediate being so close to advance is both not normal nor is it that uncommon. The winners of intermediate were encouraged to move up after the first round, but they declined. They put together a solid tourney and hopefully will be playing MA1 next AFD. Gotta hand it to them for shooting well!

What were people's favorite parts to the course? Least favorite? Now is your chance to have input regsrding next years layout!

I appreciated the better visibility of the bigger(?) warp zones. I still missed twice, which leads me to believe they should be even bigger to compensate for my lack of skill.

Always a great time, I think this is my fourth in a row. Just wish I wasn't a stone around my partner's neck - I blew it!

Thanks Nate, Dion, WDGC and everyone! Great day, great weather, great cardmates.

Thanks again for the awesome time! I love the new changes to Adair (props to the crew keeping this course fun :yay:), but nothing beats the good times at the AFD layout.:bowing: Sorry I couldn't stick around after my round I had to beat feat back to p-town for a family event.:jumpspin: One of these years Long & Wrong will get back in that groove...but even playin poorly we had great fun playing with good peeps. Can't wait for year 8!

I had a great time. Thanks for trying to make the open division big by encouraging two day participation. That is a unique twist on things that seems to both work and keep with the AFD style.

Bingo was great. I am looking forward to new shenanigans next year.

It was our first year so I really liked all the signage on the tees.....I thought the line of death, warp zones, and window mandos were all fun....the mini basket was good for a laugh for sure, never thought to practice my mini putting! The parking lot holes with all the ob were frustrating on tough shot for us but fun on best shot (mainly due to a rough day for our team consistency wise).....The keg truck and pizza were awesome and the bingo was really a good idea that added to the event.....
Can't wait for next year, everyone should check out the afd8! Thanks for reply Dion, new to tourneys and wasn't sure what division was best for us, probably rec still, haha! Big ups to all the winners with those sick scores, way beyond my skill level! Maybe next year!

Second year in first I really hope they move up or are made to move up, they would have cashed in MA1. (have some pride)

Great tournament! I can't wait until next year:rockon::yay::cheers:

My partner and I played both days (got killed against the pro's) and had a great time, well worth the time to play against people that good:trophy:

Thanks Casey!

We had an awesome time playing AFD 2013! Bingo was a great idea and felt well balanced with challenges and  required to get a bingo. I’m glad we wore our matching outfits. Despite a few extra teams, I never felt rushed or waited for a significant amount of time. Well run tournament Dion and Nate!

Others on our card were a bit confused about the mandos being a penalty or not due to nothing being on the sign, but I thought it was well explained in the player’s meeting (disc golf rule book penalty = penalty, AFD craziness = no penalty).

Pizza was good, overall layout was great, hanging basket (RIP Dion's) was fun, liked the donut and island green, hole 11 in par 4 is tough.

If any of the winners want to sell a disc with the AFD 2013 stamp, I’m buying. Any mold will do, as we’re looking for a wall hanger to commemorate our first tournament together.
